Thanksgiving Food Swaps


Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Lot's of tempting options on the table (pun intended). Here is a quick list of Healthier options for you next week.

Instead Of ---> Eat This

  • White potatoes --> Yams with the skin on

  • Mashed potatoes --> Half white potatoes with half pureed cauliflower

  • Candied sweet potatoes --> Roasted butternut squash

  • Canned cranberry sauce --> Cranberry chutney

  • Pecan pie --> Pumpkin pie

  • Cheese and cracker appetizers --> Cut up veggies, hummus and roasted red pepper dip

  • Roasted nuts and trail mix --> Raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and pecans

  • Beer --> Dry red or white wine

  • Regular stuffing --> Whole grain stuffing

  • Butter or Oil for basting --> Low sodium vegetable broth mixed with white wine

  • Cream of mushrooms or celery soups for casseroles --> Low fat plain yogurt with sautéed celery or mushrooms

  • Green bean casserole --> Sautéed green beans

  • Apple pie --> Apple crumble
